Impressed by the potential of the existing house, our architect wanted to breathe new life into this charming home. By stripping the old house back to its bones, the new design for Modena featured three decent-sized bedrooms and two bathrooms. An upstairs bedroom was extended by modifying the existing clear story to allow for north-facing windows, increasing light and space, and accommodating wardrobes.
The downstairs bathroom was transitioned into an en-suite with a separate guest toilet in a hidden laundry space. Pine and cedar weatherboards were used as the exterior cladding material to keep the home warm and healthy. The interior featured natural oak flooring downstairs, local wool carpet upstairs, and low-maintenance, timeless trims in bathrooms and the kitchen continued the natural theme.
